Lausanne

Badminton coach in Lausanne

Lausanne is a city built on a slope, and that shapes coaching here more than anything else. Sessions run from the lakeside at Ouchy and the sports grounds at Vidy up through Montchoisi to Chalet-à-Gobet at around 870 metres — which in practice means two seasons rather than one. Down by the water the season stretches from spring well into autumn; up above the city, conditions and facilities carry you through the months when the lakeside is unusable.

The city also has an unusually international population for its size, between the university, the EPFL and the sporting bodies headquartered here. Most of our coaches in Lausanne work in French and English, and a good number in German — tell us in the notes which you prefer and we will take it into account when we arrange your session.

Badminton

It is a footwork sport pretending to be a racket sport

Almost everyone who plays socially hits reasonably and moves badly, and that is the ceiling they hit. An hour on split-step, recovery to centre and how to arrive at the shuttle early changes the game more than any amount of work on the smash.

Court and equipment

Court hire is arranged with the session and included in the price. Bring your own racket if you have one — string tension is personal and a borrowed racket will feel wrong. Indoor shoes with non-marking soles are required at every hall.

Common questions

Do I need a club membership?

No. Court booking is handled as part of the session.

Can we book as a pair?

Yes. Badminton doubles is a different game from singles, and coaching a pair together works well.

Is it good exercise?

It is one of the highest-intensity racket sports there is. Expect to be tired.
