Fribourg

Fribourg is built around a loop of the Sarine gorge, which means the town changes altitude constantly and almost nothing here is flat. That makes it unusually good for conditioning work and unusually demanding for anyone expecting a gentle riverside jog. The sports facilities sit mostly on the plateau above the old town, a short walk or a funicular ride from the centre.

It is also genuinely bilingual — the language border runs through the canton, and the river through the town is roughly where it falls.
